Dr. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, Health Advisor to the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, stated that Egypt has a long history in vaccine production, highlighting the mandatory vaccines administered from childhood, such as vaccines against tuberculosis, measles, and whooping cough. He noted that Egypt has achieved significant milestones in this field.
In a telephone interview, Tag El-Din added that Egypt has eradicated polio, and the vaccine remains available to prevent its recurrence. This also applies to cholera and many other diseases. He emphasized that Egypt’s experience was exemplary during the COVID-19 crisis by providing vaccines to everyone residing in the country.
He pointed out that Egypt is a leading nation in vaccine production on the African continent, and efforts are being made to localize vaccine manufacturing in Egypt to meet local and entire African needs. He also mentioned that there is no vaccine yet for Hepatitis C, but with presidential support, medications to treat Hepatitis C have been provided, and many drugs for these diseases have been manufactured. He highlighted that international law permits the production of these drugs in the event of a pandemic, which is what happened.
