The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Social Development, is participating in the Seventh Gulf Theatre Festival for Special Needs Individuals, which is hosted by the State of Qatar from November 27 to December 3. This coincides with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, observed on December 3, and is part of the Gulf Cooperation Council’s efforts to care for people with special needs and integrate them into society.
This festival is organized biennially to enhance their participation in social and cultural activities, showcase their artistic talents, and highlight their skills in theatre and arts.
Oman will participate in this festival with its theatrical performance “The Ship is Still Standing,” a concept derived from the text “The Ship is Still Standing” by Dr. Abdul Karim Jawad and directed by Amjad Al-Kalbani, featuring 12 talents from individuals with auditory, visual, and physical special needs, as well as non-special needs actors.
This participation reflects Oman’s commitment, represented by the Ministry of Social Development, to elevate the level of support provided to individuals with special needs and ensure their active participation in society by rehabilitating and empowering them in all fields. It also aims to highlight the artistic talents and creativity of people with special needs, enhance their artistic presence in the cultural scene, and boost their self-confidence.
