Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, confirmed that the file on special needs students receives significant attention from the Ministry of Higher Education and the political leadership.
In a press statement, Abdel Ghaffar added that the ministry launched an initiative to serve and care for special needs students called “Empowerment,” aiming to integrate these students into society. Additionally, 20 centers have been established to serve and care for special needs students at public universities, with approvals for seven new centers finalized so that every public university will have a dedicated center for special needs students. This initiative reflects Egypt’s vision to build an inclusive educational environment that ensures equal opportunities for all students.
Abdel Ghaffar emphasized that one of the top priorities of the care provided to special needs students is their psychological preparation, to enhance their integration into the university community without feeling any differences from their peers. He explained that the ministry pays special attention to teaching these students how to benefit from modern technologies, helping them overcome challenges associated with their impairments, whether auditory or visual, as well as providing the necessary facilities within the university campus to support students with physical impairments.
The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Research continued by saying that Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education, stressed that continuous work is being done to develop curricula, providing educational materials in appropriate ways that help them achieve outstanding academic performance. He also highlighted the efforts made to raise awareness among faculty members, students, and administrators to build a positive and motivating educational environment that ensures support for special needs students and encourages them to excel.
