The Ministry of Youth and Sports in Aden, in collaboration with the International Red Cross, is working to support the game of wheelchair tennis for individuals with mobility disabilities. This initiative aims to provide training and resources to help these individuals participate in the sport and enhance their skills.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports, represented by Khaled Mohsen Al-Khalifi, the Deputy Minister of Sports, discussed with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), represented by Saya Lucarin, the project manager of mobility rehabilitation, the development and enhancement of the partnership related to the “Support for Wheelchair Tennis for Those with Mobility Disabilities” project. This project is implemented by the ministry and the committee in cooperation with the National Network for Advocacy for People with Determination.
During the meeting held at the ministry’s headquarters in Aden, Al-Khalifi welcomed the new project manager of mobility rehabilitation at the ICRC in Yemen and her team, expressing his “happiness with the level of partnership with the committee and the results achieved over the past three years, and the spirit of cooperation that resulted in forming a wheelchair tennis team for both genders.”
He stated, “We at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, under the leadership of Minister Naif Al-Bakri, look forward to more partnership and cooperation with the ICRC and the National Network for People with Determination, which will contribute to the development and expansion of the project to include other groups. This is important for the psychological and moral support of all people with disabilities and for achieving social integration.”
Al-Khalifi expressed the ministry’s “readiness to renew the partnership and work with the Red Cross and the National Network to ensure the project’s success and development, strengthen the current team with new members, and provide essential services that enable them to achieve their full potential and actively participate in society.”
Saya Lucarin, the project manager of mobility rehabilitation at the ICRC, confirmed that “the project has reached an advanced stage and achieved good results over the past years. Through her organization, she seeks to expand the work to include children and girls, aiming to achieve social integration.”
