Mohamed Mamdouh revealed that around 60 civil society organizations concerned with the issues of special needs individuals, along with more than 20 Egyptian political parties and over 15 parliamentarians representing various committees in the House of Representatives and the Senate, as well as representatives from relevant ministries and specialized councils, gathered for a meeting.
Mamdouh confirmed that the meeting was held under the auspices of the National Council for Human Rights to write a new chapter in the journey of enhancing the rights of more than 13 million Egyptian citizens with special needs.
He added that the sessions extended for more than six hours, discussing important issues such as the right to education, the right to work, the right to healthcare, and the right to political participation, among other issues affecting the rights of this significant segment of citizens, who deserve active citizenship participation.
He continued: “It is our duty to strive to provide a dignified life that befits them under a constitution, national legislation, and a clear human rights strategy that explicitly states these rights.”
He proudly stated that the Forum for the Rights of Special Needs Individuals is a pivotal moment in this matter, noting that this step will be followed by practical steps to enhance their rights.
He concluded his remarks by saying: “We are proud to be part of the current formation of the National Council for Human Rights,” emphasizing that their cause is always our cause and at the top of our priorities, and extending all greetings and respect to all the heroes who work diligently to achieve a state that guarantees, supports, and protects human rights for all its citizens.
