Brazilian Cosmetics Leader Pioneers AI Innovation for Inclusive Beauty
Boticário Group, the renowned Brazilian leader in the cosmetics industry, has made a significant breakthrough in promoting inclusivity within the beauty sector. The company has developed a groundbreaking technology that utilizes automation to assist individuals with limited mobility, according to the Associated Press.
The company unveiled the “Smart Lipstick,” an innovative system powered by artificial intelligence and computer vision, designed to apply lipstick with precision and autonomy. This revolutionary device offers people with special needs the opportunity to enjoy beauty routines with ease and independence.
Currently at the prototype stage, the device features a sleek black design and a comfortable chin rest similar to those used in optometry clinics.
When a user places their chin on the rest, the system takes over, applying lipstick automatically in roughly two minutes via a robotic arm that mimics the gentle touch of a human. It employs advanced computer vision technology to scan the face, map the lips, and identify color tones, ensuring a seamless and even application. Afterward, the device captures a final image to verify the accuracy of the process.
This innovative solution was developed over seven years of research and collaboration between Boticário Group and the innovation hub CESAR. A team of 42 specialists—including engineers, product designers, user experience experts, and diversity specialists—worked together to turn this vision into reality.
Mylene Haraguchi, a research and development expert at Boticário, explained that the decision to focus on lipstick as the initial product stemmed from its popularity, as it is often one of the first cosmetics individuals explore when entering the world of makeup.
Giordano Cabral, Chairman of CESAR and an artificial intelligence expert, highlighted that this collaboration demonstrates how technology can create positive change in people’s lives. He emphasized that the innovation not only fulfills functional purposes but also enhances independence and self-expression for individuals with special needs.
Recent reports underline that the success of inclusive beauty brands depends on factors like transparency, consumer engagement, and integrating inclusivity into business strategies.
Boticário Group affirms that the “Smart Lipstick” embodies these principles, aiming to revolutionize the beauty industry and make beauty more accessible and inclusive for everyone.
