Engineer Amal Mobdeh, President of the Egyptian Sports Federation for Intellectual Disabilities, expressed her pride in participating in a scientific seminar at the Dar Al-Iftaa pavilion. She emphasized that the issue of special needs has seen significant progress in recent years, but still requires more awareness and effective implementation of the rights stipulated in the laws.
She explained that there are challenges facing special needs individuals in the labor market, stating: “Despite the 5% quota allocated for employing special needs individuals according to the law, some entities are still not convinced of their ability to work, although studies have shown that their productivity may surpass others in certain fields.”
She added that practical experience has demonstrated the success of special needs individuals in various professions, citing the example of a factory where workers with intellectual disabilities were found to be 35% more productive than their peers, due to their commitment and discipline in performing assigned tasks.
In conclusion, Engineer Amal Mobdeh called for changing societal attitudes towards special needs individuals and working towards their genuine integration. She affirmed that “special needs individuals are capable of achieving great accomplishments if given the right opportunities.”
The seminar concluded with several recommendations, the most notable being the need to enhance religious awareness of the rights of special needs individuals through fatwas and legitimate initiatives that ensure a dignified life for them.
The attendees also recommended the activation of legislation that guarantees their rights, especially in the fields of employment, education, and healthcare, involving religious institutions to provide more support for special needs issues, and enhancing community awareness efforts to combat discrimination and bullying against them. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of cooperation between government, religious, and civil society organizations to ensure the implementation of laws and procedures that guarantee their integration into society.
