Journalist Shaimaa Mohammed Fawzy, the first television correspondent in a wheelchair, emphasized that strong willpower can break all barriers, noting that a true journalist is not hindered by challenges in achieving their goals.
Shaimaa explained, during a television interview, that her idea was inspired and supported by journalist Iman Al-Hosary, who encouraged her to present a television segment documenting accessible and non-accessible places for individuals with special needs. Since then, she embarked on field tours covering downtown, Port Said, Alexandria, and the metro, showcasing the difference between places that cater to the needs of individuals with special needs and those lacking necessary facilities.
She confirmed that there has been noticeable progress in some areas, but the path to achieving a fully inclusive environment remains long. She added that the moment she was honored by Mrs. Intisar El-Sisi, the First Lady, was a turning point in her career, as she felt that her efforts were making a real impact in society.
She concluded her statement by calling on public and private institutions to take responsibility for providing an accessible environment for everyone, emphasizing that achieving equal opportunities is not limited to government efforts alone but requires comprehensive cooperation from the entire community.
