Dr. Walaa Al-Duksh, Professor of Early Childhood Education at Al-Azhar University, emphasized the importance of treating special needs children naturally and equally. She explained that the treatment should be fair among all children, whether they have special needs or not, without discrimination or excessive pampering that may lead the child to feel different or envious.
The Professor of Early Childhood Education at Al-Azhar University stated, “It is important to distribute love and affection equally among children, including during daily activities such as eating, drinking, and even playing times. Everyone should feel they are treated equally, as this contributes to creating a healthy environment free from jealousy among children.”
She added that handling questions from young special needs children should be done with great care. She pointed out that if there is a special needs child in the family, it is essential to explain their condition in a way that suits their age and level of understanding, focusing on their positives and special skills they may excel in, such as artistic or sports skills.
Regarding the integration of the special needs child with the rest of the family and society, she stressed that the family plays a vital role in raising awareness and teaching children to understand and cooperate with their different members. She affirmed that positive interaction among children at home contributes to strengthening their relationships and encourages the feeling of acceptance and mutual respect.
She also stressed the importance of giving convincing and honest answers to questions from other children, ensuring that situations are handled in a way that respects everyone’s feelings and encourages tolerance and mutual understanding among children.
