The General Directorate of Education in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate has commenced the qualification rounds for the Quran Memorization, Tajweed, and Voice Recitation Competition for schools in the governorate.
Rashid bin Said Al Falahi, an Islamic Education Supervisor at the directorate, stated that the Quran Memorization Competition, which has been held annually for over 40 years, aims to encourage students to memorize the Holy Quran, refine their talents, and enhance their intellect through fair competition. He noted that the competition has seen significant development over the years, with increasing numbers of participants and growing interest from students, parents, and schools.
Al Falahi highlighted that more than 500 students from various schools in the governorate are participating this year, surpassing previous numbers. He added that the competition includes several levels, such as Quran memorization, recitation, and a special category for students with intellectual and cognitive challenges. For the second consecutive year, students are competing in memorization across five levels, with one student representing each level from their school in the governorate qualification rounds, followed by national-level participation across the Sultanate.
He explained that the qualification process involves multiple stages, starting with teachers registering the students and selecting school representatives. These representatives are then supported by schools and parents. In cases of intense competition at any level, outstanding students undergo a second qualification round to select the participant who will represent the governorate at the national level. Al Falahi added that North Al Sharqiyah Governorate has consistently maintained top rankings in the competition, securing first place for 12 consecutive years.
He concluded by mentioning that the qualification rounds begin in December and conclude at the start of the second semester, followed by evaluation by the Ministry of Education at the governorate level.
