The Kuwait Down Syndrome Society organized the World Down Syndrome Day Forum under the theme “Chromosome 21: Its Present and Future.”
The forum, held under the patronage of Minister of Social Affairs and Family and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amal Al-Huweila, aimed to emphasize the necessity of integrating individuals with Down syndrome into education to reinforce their prominent and influential role in society.
The forum, attended by several representatives of relevant entities, provided a valuable opportunity to discover the talents of individuals with Down syndrome and highlight their notable social traits.
Vice President of the Kuwait Down Syndrome Society Izdehar Al-Kandari told KUNA that the forum included lectures on topics such as using artificial intelligence programs to teach and train students with special needs, emotional and behavioral disorders in Down syndrome, and Down syndrome and obesity.
Al-Kandari stressed the society’s commitment to raising community awareness to reject all forms of bullying that lead to developmental delays and health issues for individuals with Down syndrome.
She praised the efforts of official entities supporting individuals with Down syndrome, particularly the Ministry of Social Affairs represented by Minister Dr. Amal Al-Huweila, the International Islamic Charity Organization, and other entities supporting the society’s mission.
Secretary of the Kuwait Down Syndrome Society Mariam Al-Kandari stated that the forum provided an opportunity to discover the talents of individuals with Down syndrome.
She pointed to the accompanying exhibition, which saw the participation of several entities, including the Charity Organization, the Ministry of Health, and public benefit associations, reflecting the capability and impact of individuals with Down syndrome on society.
Al-Kandari affirmed the society’s dedication to continuing its role in supporting the causes of individuals with Down syndrome in various fields, including their qualification for the job market and their social integration. She highlighted the significant role of government entities in empowering individuals with Down syndrome and contributing to their skill development and improvement.
For his part, General Manager of the International Islamic Charity Organization Eng. Bader Al-Samait stated in a press release that the organization’s belief in the importance of building and advancing communities centers on individuals, especially those with Down syndrome, who receive attention and care in various fields, including education, training, and job market qualification.
Al-Samait noted that the Charity Organization sponsored approximately 136 students with Down syndrome between 2022 and 2025 as part of educational and qualification projects, demonstrating the organization’s commitment to providing all forms of support to develop their skills and abilities.
He highlighted the important role of the “Willpower” team for individuals with special needs under the organization’s umbrella, along with the Human Development Initiative, which offers services to individuals with Down syndrome.
