Miami USA: Jasour – News Desk
Ahead of the busy Thanksgiving and winter holidays, Miami International Airport (MIA) and American Airlines are preparing to welcome over 40 children with special needs, along with their parents or guardians, for the latest MIA Airport Instruction and Readiness (MIAair) tour. This unique event allows participants to practice the complete air travel experience—from entering the airport and securing boarding passes to going through security and finally boarding an American Airlines aircraft.
The MIAair tour, scheduled for Thursday, November 7, 2024, will be held at MIA’s Concourse D, near TSA Checkpoint 1. The event, which begins at 9 a.m. after an 8:30 a.m. check-in, offers a safe, controlled environment that allows the children to become familiar with the airport journey while providing a learning opportunity for the airport and airline staff. Launched in 2015 through a partnership with UM-NSU’s Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD), the MIAair program aims to make air travel more accessible and enjoyable for all, hosting more than 200 children with special needs since its inception.
