The preparatory meetings for the 115th session of the Economic and Social Council of the Arab League began today, Sunday. The ministerial-level meetings are scheduled to be held next Thursday, presided over by the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Social Committee, headed by Nawaf Hashim Al-Sada, the representative of Bahrain, met to prepare the draft agenda related to the social dossier for the session. The meeting was attended by Ambassador Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector at the Arab League.
The draft agenda of the Social Committee includes following up on the implementation of the decisions of the 114th session of the Economic and Social Council and the activities of the General Secretariat between the 114th and 115th sessions. The agenda also includes the social aspects of the economic and social dossier of the Arab League Council at its 34th regular session in Iraq.
The agenda includes a topic on studying the diversification of social security funding sources in Arab countries, as well as reviewing several items proposed by the Republic of Tunisia, including the mechanism of protected workshops for the benefit of individuals with special needs to ensure their economic and social integration, and enhancing Arab integration to address the impacts of climate change on vulnerable social groups, as well as an item on governance of employment.
The committee’s work also includes an item on Arab international cooperation in social and developmental fields, and reports and decisions of ministerial councils and specialized committees.
