Ambassador Jamal Al-Musharakh: UAE Integrates the “Rights of Individuals with Special Needs” Convention into National Policy to Ensure Their Protection
The Permanent Mission of the UAE to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva organized a side event on “Promoting and Protecting the Rights of Individuals with Special Needs: Access to Technology and Artificial Intelligence” on the sidelines of the fifty-eighth session of the Human Rights Council.
Ambassador Jamal Al-Musharakh, the UAE’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, confirmed that the UAE, as a party to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, has integrated the provisions of the convention into national laws and policies to ensure the protection of this group in the fields of education, healthcare, and social security.
Sheikha Dr. Moza bint Tahnoun Al Nahyan, an advisor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the UAE’s pioneering role in using artificial intelligence to serve and empower individuals with special needs, noting the country’s commitment to their social and technological inclusion through innovative policies.
Rehab Boursli, a member of the International Expert Committee for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, presented on the potential of artificial intelligence to improve the lives of individuals with special needs. Abdullah Al-Humaidan, Secretary-General of the Zayed Higher Organization for Individuals with Special Needs, showcased the UAE’s legislation related to the rights of individuals with special needs.
