The Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity revealed that statistics from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics indicate that individuals with special needs related to hearing impairment represent 4.5% of all disabilities, necessitating intensified efforts to ensure their full integration into society.
The Ministry explained that estimates from the World Health Organization confirm that more than 1.5 billion people worldwide suffer from hearing loss, with this number expected to rise to 2.5 billion by 2050.
In a statement, the Ministry announced that Dr. Maya Morsy, the Minister of Social Solidarity, received a report from the Central Administration for the Affairs of Individuals with Special Needs on the occasion of World Hearing Day, which is celebrated on March 3rd each year.
The Ministry reaffirmed its strong commitment to integrating and empowering individuals with hearing impairments as an integral part of society. It pointed out that individuals with hearing impairments face many challenges in communication, education, and employment, necessitating collective efforts to ensure their full rights, rehabilitation, and integration into all aspects of life.
The Ministry confirmed that it provides numerous services for individuals with hearing impairments, including early detection operations in early childhood nurseries, as well as medical convoys supporting early detection in developed areas. The Ministry also provides hearing aids to individuals with hearing impairments in partnership with charities and civil society organizations.
Furthermore, the Ministry stated that the first unified and approved rehabilitation and educational program for children with hearing impairments, users of hearing aids and cochlear implants, has been established to teach them language and speech in preparation for their entry into inclusive or comprehensive education schools.
