On January 4th each year, the world celebrates World Braille Day, the language that has illuminated the lives of special needs individuals with visual impairments, granting them the key to knowledge and culture, becoming a symbol of willpower and challenge in overcoming difficulties.
Mrs. Zakaria Abdel Rahim, Head of the Rights of Special Needs Individuals Authority at the Ministry of Labor, affirmed that Braille represents a primary empowerment tool for visually impaired special needs individuals. She emphasized the importance of promoting its use in education and training for their full integration into society. She pointed to the ministry’s efforts in updating curricula and resources at institutions for the visually impaired, including Al-Nour Institute, with the application of modern systems such as shorthand to facilitate faster and more efficient writing.
Abdel Rahim highlighted the role of the white cane, which is a symbol of the independence of the visually impaired, in enhancing their ability to navigate confidently and safely. She stressed the importance of providing it and training beneficiaries on its optimal use as an integral part of empowering the visually impaired in their daily lives.
Abdel Rahim added that Braille and the white cane are not just tools but symbols of hope and independence, writing success stories that challenge all circumstances.
