Participants in the panel discussion on “Sports for Special Needs and Ways to Develop It” affirmed the UAE’s pioneering role in developing sports for this category, organizing world championships, and cooperating with Gulf countries to enhance their capabilities.
The session was held as part of the activities organized by the General Authority for Youth in Kuwait and the “Diwan Harvard” Foundation, under the patronage of Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, Minister of Information and Culture, Minister of State for Youth Affairs of Kuwait, at the headquarters of “Diwan Al Khaleej” in Kuwait, on the sidelines of the 26th Arabian Gulf Cup “Gulf 26”.
Fahad Al-Anzi from the Kuwaiti Challenge Sports Club for Special Needs said that the UAE has an integrated system and modern infrastructure for special needs, contributing to the development achieved in sports for this category. He noted that the panel discussion is important to explore possible ways to develop sports for special needs in Kuwait and other Gulf countries.
Mishal Al-Otaibi, a board member of the Challenge Sports Club for Special Needs, indicated that the UAE has been working for years to develop sports for special needs, and the Fazza International Championships in Dubai have significantly impacted the athletes’ reach to the Olympics, the development of sports at the Gulf level, and encouraged other countries to adopt a similar approach in paying attention to sports for special needs.
Abdulaziz Al-Mutairi from the Warba Sports Club for Special Needs explained that the UAE is a global destination for special needs sports through the Fazza International Championships, which have become part of the global calendar and achieved significant qualitative leaps in the field of special needs sports.
Majid Al-Osaimi, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee and board member of the International Paralympic Committee, confirmed that the panel discussion on “Sports for Special Needs and Ways to Develop It” has significant implications for discussing Paralympic sports, their impact on society and special needs individuals, and exploring their future. He expressed his appreciation to the entities responsible for the event organized by the General Authority for Youth in Kuwait, the “Diwan Harvard” Foundation, and the Warba Sports Club, under the patronage of Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, Minister of Information and Culture, Minister of State for Youth Affairs of Kuwait.
Al-Osaimi added that the initiative contributes to enhancing Gulf communication, with the participation of experts and officials to achieve common goals and review the impact of sports on social and cultural life, especially since the Gulf Cup football tournaments are a meeting point for communication among the people of the region.
