Under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), Chairman of the General Sports Authority (GSA), and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC); Osama bin Ahmed Khalaf Al Asfoor, Minister of Social Development, opened the first regional conference on “Education and Training Curricula for Persons with Disabilities: Effective Strategies and Practices”. Organised by the Bahrain Down Syndrome Society (BDSS) in cooperation with the Centre for Academic Excellence in Scientific Services and Training, the conference gathered experts and specialists in the field.
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad highlighted the event as a key step in enhancing efforts to support and empower persons with disabilities, reflecting Bahrain’s commitment to developing educational and training programmes that align with the best global practices to meet the needs of this important community group.
His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad added, “We believe that education and training are fundamental to empowering persons with disabilities and fully integrating them into society. This conference provides an opportunity for experts to exchange knowledge and ideas, aiming to improve the quality of educational and training programmes, thereby contributing to sustainable development and a brighter future for all.”
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad commended all those involved in organising the event and wished participants a productive experience in the sessions and discussions.
The conference aims to present effective curricula and programmes for educating and training persons with disabilities, raising awareness of their challenges and needs in education and training. It also covers recent studies, research, and innovations that contribute to curriculum development and enhances the skills of teachers and trainers, providing a platform for knowledge exchange.
The event further highlights the best practices and innovations in disability education and training, focusing on assistive technologies, smart applications, and digital tools, while encouraging cooperation between educational institutions, NGOs, and the community. It aims to raise awareness of the need for equitable educational and training opportunities for persons with disabilities.
Speakers presented papers on core topics, such as the state of disability education and training, and innovation and assistive technology in education. The conference included discussions, panels, and workshops aimed at raising awareness and sharing expertise on providing comprehensive and integrated curricula for persons with disabilities.
The conference focuses on individuals with disabilities, educators, specialists, academics, researchers, postgraduate students, and organisations offering special education services.
