Kuwaiti Minister Praises Achievements of Special Needs Athletes at Winter Games in Turin
The Minister of Information, Culture, and Youth Affairs, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, commended the significant achievements of Kuwait’s male and female athletes during the Special Olympics World Winter Games, which recently concluded in Turin, Italy. The event brought together over 1,500 athletes from 100 countries.
Minister Al-Mutairi emphasized that the excellence of Kuwait’s “Blue Team for Special Needs” reflects the care and support provided by His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, as well as His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Prime Minister. He highly valued this distinguished attention to supporting the nation’s athletes.
He highlighted the team’s success, achieving four medals: a gold and a bronze won by player Hajar Al-Rashidi and a silver and bronze by Abdullah Al-Ali. This, he noted, is a testament to the determination and high spirit exhibited by Kuwait’s special needs athletes with intellectual disabilities.
The Minister also praised the efforts of athlete Maryam Diyab, who achieved remarkable results and came close to podium placement. He congratulated all the players, as well as the administrative and technical staff and accompanying delegation, on this significant accomplishment, which promises further successes in upcoming sports events.
Al-Mutairi also pointed out that the Public Authority for Sport, as part of its strategy, will continue to provide full support to Kuwaiti special needs sports—whether intellectual, physical, deaf, or visually impaired—to achieve even greater accomplishments. He highlighted the rich history of special needs athletes, who have proudly represented Kuwait in major global sports events
