Amidst large participation from various age groups, the bicycle race and walking marathon kicked off this Saturday morning as part of the “Kuwait Sports Day” activities on Jaber Bridge.
The Minister of Information and State for Youth Affairs, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, signaled the start of the races, in the presence of the President of the Kuwaiti Federation for All Sports and a member of the Supreme Organizing Committee for Kuwait Sports Day, Mahmoud Abul.
Former Prime Minister His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem participated in the bicycle race for the second consecutive year, along with former Minister Dawood Marafi. The bicycle race covers a distance of 20 km, followed by the walking marathon covering a distance of 5 km.
The number of participants in the walking and bicycle races reached about 20,000 competitors from both genders, with the participation of special needs champions.
Minister Al-Mutairi emphasized that “Kuwait Sports Day” contributes to raising awareness about the importance of sports, presenting Kuwait’s beautiful message of providing a safe and enabling environment for practicing sports and physical activity.
For her part, the Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Development and Activities at the Ministry of Education, Maryam Al-Anzi, stated: “For the second year, we participate in the ‘Kuwait Sports Day’ marathon with 4,500 students from all educational districts.”
