The Shafallah Center for Individuals with Special Needs has announced the organization of the first edition of the “Shafallah – Bridging Nations: Art Weave” initiative. This event is in collaboration with the Bridging Nations Organization and the Academic Society of Arts, Sciences, and Literature in Paris, coordinated with the Embassy of the French Republic in the country.
The center mentioned that the art workshop activities for the initiative will commence from February 16 to February 20 at the Youth Center of Qatar Museums.
Mrs. Mariam Saif Al-Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Shafallah Center, stated that the “Art Weave” exhibition aims to implement art workshops over three days and display art pieces produced by 17 teams, each consisting of a young artist with special needs and a professional artist competing for the top three positions.
She highlighted that the art pieces will address the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, and the exhibition will emphasize the importance of community partnership in improving the lives of individuals with special needs, their connection to social development, and their integration and empowerment in various fields, including art.
She also confirmed that the initiative’s activities would span five days, beginning with an opening ceremony on the first day, followed by three days of intensive work where participants collaborate to create an art piece reflecting their shared vision on their chosen topic.
The closing ceremony on the final day will announce and honor the winning teams. She explained that the initiative is not just an art event but an invitation to enhance cultural ties and promote the values of cooperation through the arts, playing a significant role in empowering individuals with special needs by providing opportunities for creative expression and cultural participation.
It is worth mentioning that the initiative includes 17 artists with special needs, 11 of whom are from the Shafallah Center for Individuals with Special Needs, 4 from the Best Buddies Qatar Program, and 2 from the Al-Noor Center for the Blind. These artists represent a diverse range of abilities and talents and will work with professional artists residing in Qatar, representing the elite of the local art scene, including artists from the Fire Station (Artist Residency) and other artists from various parts of Qatar.
