The 13th edition of the Sharjah International Para Athletics Forum, organized by the Al-Thiqa Club for Special Needs, concluded under the gracious patronage of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, with the participation of 181 athletes from around the world.
During the first two days of the forum, UAE club champions succeeded in winning 44 medals (13 gold, 16 silver, and 15 bronze). Al-Thiqa Club for Special Needs secured 5 golds, 4 silvers, and 5 bronzes. Khorfakkan Club for Special Needs earned 3 golds, 4 silvers, and 1 bronze. Dubai Club for People of Determination achieved 2 golds, 2 silvers, and 3 bronzes. Al Ain Club for People of Determination collected 2 golds, 2 silvers, and 2 bronzes. Abu Dhabi Club for People of Determination won 3 silvers and 1 bronze. Al Dhafra Club secured 1 gold and 1 bronze, and Ajman Club won 1 silver and 2 bronzes.
During the forum, several athletes set world records. Belgian athlete Maxime Carabin set a world record in the Men’s 1500m, 200m, and 100m races in the T52 category, while Tunisian athlete Waleed Ketila set a world record in the Men’s 1500m race in the T34 category.
Dr. Khalid Omar Al-Madfa, Chairman of Al-Thiqa Club for Special Needs, emphasized that the success of the championship was the result of collective work and continuous dedication from all organizing committees. He noted that the sport for special needs individuals is fortunate to have wise leadership that has provided all factors for success, aiming to reach podiums and win titles. He thanked all entities and institutions sponsoring this forum and appreciated the outstanding results achieved by the UAE athletes.
He added that the continuous support from His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and the gracious patronage of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, played a significant role in making Sharjah a central hub for para-sports globally.
Youssef Mohammed Al-Doubi, the championship director, confirmed that the forum’s success was not limited to organization but also reflected Sharjah’s exceptional ability to attract international attention and organize world-class competitions that draw champions from around the globe. This enhances the country’s status as a global sports destination for special needs competitions, noting the significant interaction from the public and media, which reflected the strong relationship between Sharjah and special needs individuals.
Al-Doubi also highlighted the role of the organizing committees whose carefully planned preparations ensured the forum’s success. All necessary measures were taken to ensure the comfort and safety of the participants, in addition to high professionalism in managing the event, officiating, and accurately recording results. He pointed out that this forum is not just a sports event but an opportunity for cultural and athletic exchange with world champions.
