The National Council for Special Needs Individuals, in collaboration with the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, organized the first workshop on “Integrating and Empowering Children and Girls with Special Needs in the National Initiative ‘Dawy.'” This event is part of the cooperation protocol signed between the two parties.
The workshop trained several social and psychological specialists in schools for the blind, intellectual education, and integration, as well as staff from the National Council for Special Needs Individuals and the Nidaa Association, who work directly with girls with special needs.
They were trained on methods to incorporate the rights of girls and women with special needs into the national “Dawy” initiative to empower girls, methods to generalize these rights in different entities, and how to register girls on the “Dawy” platform to listen to their challenges and remove obstacles to achieving a safe life for them.
The workshop included practical training on implementing the initiative, such as storytelling circles, interactive theater, intergenerational meetings, digital learning, and how to use sign language in managing these activities for children with hearing impairments and the hard of hearing.
In this context, Dr. Iman Kareem, General Supervisor of the National Council for Special Needs Individuals, stated that the council collaborates with the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood to exchange expertise, achieve societal integration for mothers and children, and work on empowering them in all fields.
This includes providing technical expertise on the requirements of each disability and the challenges they face in obtaining their rights, especially those related to environmental and technological accessibility, raising family and community awareness, and providing psychological support, particularly for girls with special needs.
Dr. Kareem mentioned in a press statement issued by the National Council for Special Needs Individuals that the guide for the national “Dawy” initiative to empower girls will be made available in Braille for visually impaired children and those with low vision. It will be distributed in all schools dedicated to them after being reviewed and approved by the National Council for Special Needs Individuals.
Dr. Sahar El-Sanbaty, President of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, emphasized that the workshop is part of the cooperation with the National Council for Special Needs Individuals to integrate with all partners. She expressed her hopes for integrating girls with special needs into the national initiative to empower girls.
She confirmed that the council pays special attention to integrating children with special needs into all developmental programs and activities it implements. It also plays a significant role in policy-making and strategy development to empower special needs children and improve the quality of services provided to them.
Dr. El-Sanbaty pointed out that as part of the cooperation with the National Council for Special Needs Individuals, the initiative’s guide will be translated into Braille for blind children. It will be reviewed and approved by the National Council for Special Needs Individuals and then distributed in schools for the blind.
At the conclusion of the workshop, Suleiman Amer, Acting Assistant Secretary-General of the National Council for Special Needs Individuals, and Dr. Wael Abdul Razek, Secretary-General of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, awarded certificates of completion for the training workshop to the trainees.
