The National Centre for Statistics and Information announced the results of the 2024 social cohesion survey among Omanis, which revealed that 82.2% of Omanis participate in caring for family members who need special attention at home.
The results showed significant differences in participation rates between genders, with 83.1% of females participating compared to 81.7% of males. This indicates that females are more likely to take on the responsibility of home care.
In terms of age groups, the 30 to 49 age group recorded the highest participation rate at 84.7%, reflecting their role in bearing caregiving responsibilities within the family.
Regarding the educational level, the data showed that individuals with qualifications higher than the general diploma were the most participative, with a rate of 86.0%, compared to other educational categories.

Geographically, Musandam, Al Buraimi, and Al Wusta Governorates had the highest participation rates among the governorates at 87.2%, while the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate recorded the lowest participation rate at 80.8%.
These results reflect the strong social cohesion in Omani society, where individuals are keen to provide support and care for family members in need, thereby enhancing family solidarity values in the Sultanate.
Survey Details
It is noteworthy that the survey included three main axes:
- Family cohesion axis (for residents in the same household).
- Relatives’ cohesion axis (for Omanis).
- Community cohesion axis (for Omanis).
The special care segment within the first axis addressed the following question:
To what extent do you participate in caring for individuals who need special attention within your family? Such as children, special needs individuals, and the elderly.
