The Royal Commission for the City of Riyadh announced the launch of the Comprehensive Accessibility Program for Individuals with Special Needs. The program aims to create an urban environment that enables residents and visitors with special needs to access, navigate, and engage in various activities independently and with ease.
Minister of State and Member of the Council of Ministers, as well as CEO of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, Engineer Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al-Sultan, expressed his deepest gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and to His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Prime Minister and Chairman of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, for their support and care for individuals with special needs.
He stated, “The launch of this program reflects the leadership’s commitment to empowering individuals with special needs and integrating them as active members of society.” He further emphasized that the program will enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors and position Riyadh as a leading city in comprehensive accessibility and a regional and global tourist attraction.
Al-Sultan also highlighted that accessibility is a fundamental human right, as outlined in Article 27 of the Basic Law of Governance: “The state guarantees citizens’ rights, including in cases of illness, disability, and old age.” Additionally, Article 26 stipulates that “The state protects human rights in accordance with Islamic law,” reinforcing principles of justice, equality, and the elimination of discrimination on any basis, including disability.
