The recent remarks made by artist Mohamed Khiari during his appearance have sparked widespread condemnation, with the Moroccan Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired describing them as offensive to individuals with special needs.
In a strongly worded statement, the association expressed its firm rejection of what it labeled as an “irresponsible media appearance,” emphasizing that resorting to mockery of vulnerable groups for entertainment purposes is unacceptable. They stressed that artists should serve as voices for the community rather than tools for belittlement or exclusion.
The association also denounced what it described as a regression of its rights, highlighting that it has yet to receive its final accreditation despite fulfilling the necessary legal requirements. Additionally, it voiced solidarity with the director of the “Badeel” platform, Hamid Mahdaoui, against what it considers to be a targeted campaign, while commending the platform’s role in addressing societal issues with honesty and responsibility. However, the association criticized the platform for hosting personalities lacking social and political awareness.
These positions come just days before the National Day for Persons with Special Needs, observed on March 30. The association stated that the occasion underscores the ongoing struggles of this group for their rights, reiterating its rejection of any attempts to undermine their achievements and calling for greater awareness and responsibility when addressing their issues.
