The Kuwait delegation for intellectual disabilities from the Kuwait Special Olympics is participating in the 12th Winter World Games for the Special Olympics 2025, hosted by the city of Turin, Italy, from March 8 to 15. Several training camps were held to prepare the delegation with the goal of achieving a national sports accomplishment.
Hanaa Al-Zawawi, Chairwoman of the Kuwait Special Olympics, emphasized the dedication of the athletes participating in the World Games held in Turin, Italy, which serves as a key motivator to achieve advanced positions that add to the country’s sports achievements.
Al-Zawawi stated that despite the limited locations for winter sports training in the country, the delegation made significant efforts to achieve the best results under the supervision of the technical and administrative staff of the Kuwait Special Olympics. She highlighted the delegation’s determination to achieve advanced positions in the World Games, overcoming obstacles such as cold weather and unfamiliarity with snow, hoping to achieve a remarkable record for Kuwaiti sports, especially for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
She explained that the delegation consists of three athletes and their parents, as well as the delegation leader Khalid Al-Nasser and Dr. Bibi Al-Omari, who participates in the “Healthy Athletes” program for all athletes there under the Special Olympics, which is a source of pride for the country. Additionally, a doctor from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health accompanies the delegation to monitor the health of the participating athletes and respond to any health emergencies.
Khalid Al-Nasser, the head of the Kuwaiti delegation, said in a similar statement to KUNA that the Kuwaiti delegation of intellectual disabilities participating in the World Games faces strong competition, especially since participants from various countries are accustomed to cold weather and practicing winter sports. He noted that the technical staff of the Kuwait Special Olympics made significant efforts to prepare the Kuwaiti athletes with the goal of achieving accomplishments for the country’s sports.
