Acting Director General of the General Authority for Special Needs Affairs, Wafa Al-Muhanna, announced that all ministries have been notified about reducing working hours for employees with special needs or those caring for them during the holy month of Ramadan.
In a press statement, Al-Muhanna emphasized that individuals with special needs or those responsible for their care are entitled to a reduction of two working hours per day, fully paid, during Ramadan across all government entities, as per Article 40 of Law No. 8 of 2010 concerning the rights of individuals with special needs.
Al-Muhanna clarified that the reduction in working hours applies to employees with severe, moderate, or mild disabilities, as well as those caring for individuals with moderate or severe disabilities, including those with custody or guardianship orders. However, the reduction cannot be applied to two individuals within the same family unless there are multiple individuals with special needs, and each caregiver is responsible for a different person.
Beneficiaries can coordinate with their respective workplaces to choose the timing of the reduced working hours, either at the beginning or end of the workday. The reduction cannot be split and must be applied according to the regulations and systems in place at each government entity and the institutions under their supervision.
This initiative aims to support employees with special needs and their caregivers, ensuring they have the necessary time and flexibility during the holy month of Ramadan.
