Damascus: Jasour – News Desk
An official in the Autonomous Administration in northern Syria stated on Saturday that President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend foreign aid programs for 90 days has caused significant service, educational, and health damages, as well as numerous problems in the region’s camps.
According to the executive order signed by Trump just hours after taking office for a second term, all heads of departments and agencies responsible for U.S. foreign development aid programs must halt new commitments and disburse development aid funds immediately.
Naji Habo, co-chair of the Organizations Affairs Department in the Autonomous Administration, said the decision directly impacted the displaced and those living in camps, amidst the difficult conditions faced by the administration and the lack of international crossings, with continued Turkish attacks causing a new wave of displacement from northern Aleppo.
Habo added that the health, education, energy, agriculture, food aid, children and therapeutic nutrition, environment, water and sanitation, special needs, local economy, and psychological rehabilitation sectors, particularly in the camps, have all been directly affected by the aid suspension decision.
The reduction rate of employees in organizations operating under U.S. aid programs has reached over 80%. He pointed out that there are five thousand people in the camps in need of medical care as they suffer from chronic diseases.
The official also mentioned that there are 1,500 individuals with special needs, and this decision exposes them to marginalization and suffering.
