The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is continuing its plan to serve special needs individuals during their daily visits to museums. Consequently, the General Administration for Museum Education for Special Needs has implemented a plan to raise the efficiency of Egyptian museums to accommodate visitors with various disabilities.
According to Moamen Osman, Head of the Museum Sector, a set of sign language guidance signs has been installed at the Luxor Museum of Ancient Egyptian Art to make the museum accessible to visitors with hearing impairments.
He added that the museum has been equipped with explanatory labels written in Braille to serve visitors with visual impairments, facilitating the delivery of information to them. Additionally, archaeologists are available to provide explanations and accompany them on archaeological tours throughout the day.
In a related context, the Mallawi Museum, represented by the Museum Education Department for Special Needs, organized a macramé art workshop as part of the winter camp activity launched by the General Administration for Museum Education for Special Needs under the title “Vacation and Craft.”
This activity was in cooperation with the Talented Department of the Mallawi Educational Administration and included the following: learning about different types of threads and how to use them, understanding basic knots and those used to create various pieces, strategies for calculating lengths to minimize thread waste, and applying the previous steps to produce macramé tablecloths.
Additionally, the Imhotep Museum, represented by the Museum Education Department for Special Needs, welcomed a group of special needs individuals with intellectual disabilities from the National Family Development Foundation and the Intellectual Education Foundation for Girls in Helwan. The visit included watching a documentary about the Saqqara archaeological area in the visual preparation hall, followed by a guided tour with museum officials providing simple explanations.
