The Human Rights Affairs Sector at the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a virtual workshop today on the rights of special needs individuals, in collaboration with the American Bar Association. The workshop was presented by Professor Arlene Kanter, Director of Disability Law and Policy Program at Syracuse University College of Law, and attended by representatives from the Ministry of Social Development and the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission.
The workshop was inaugurated by Ambassador Dr. Arwa Hassan Al-Sayyed, Head of the Human Rights Affairs Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In her opening remarks, she welcomed the constructive cooperation with the American Bar Association and commended Professor Arlene Kanter’s extensive experience and long-standing expertise in the field of disability rights. She also highlighted key national projects related to the rights of this group, emphasizing the pivotal role of the Higher Committee for the Care of Special Needs Individuals.
During the workshop, several articles of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities were highlighted, especially as the Kingdom of Bahrain is in the process of issuing legislative amendments in the field of disability rights to ensure comprehensive protection for this group. This reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to advancing human rights in all areas.
