Captain Rasha El Shaer, Egypt’s weightlifting champion, who has special needs, announced that she has founded the first theater team for individuals with special needs in Al Sharqia Governorate. Her goal was to use this theater to convey a message to the audience about the challenges faced by individuals with special needs and to work towards addressing these issues.
El Shaer added that in the 1980s, the rights of individuals with special needs were neglected, and there was talk that they would not be able to face society, in addition to the negative societal perception.
She pointed out that she experienced despair for a period and listened to her family’s limited perspectives. She felt confined and saw her disability as a death sentence, but she managed to change this fearful and pessimistic outlook into one filled with hope.
