During an open meeting with the editors-in-chief of daily newspapers and the heads of public benefit associations in Kuwait, Sheikh Fahd Youssef Saud Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior, and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Achieving Kuwaiti Citizenship, confirmed that the revocation of citizenship from some individuals was to correct wrongful situations that had been identified.
He stated: “The decision may be difficult due to its consequences, but it is a necessity dictated by the interest of the nation and the rule of law.”
He explained that the Complaints Committee will consider every complaint raised in the context of the revocation of Kuwaiti citizenship, not limited to Article 8 alone, indicating that the matter of reinstating citizenship is a decision in the hands of His Highness the Amir.
In response to a question from “Jasour” magazine regarding the status of special needs individuals who may have their citizenship revoked, Sheikh Fahd Youssef Al-Sabah confirmed that in such cases, they will enjoy all the services and benefits received by Kuwaiti citizens without any reduction. He added that the caretaker or guardian of the special needs individual will receive the same privileges, including salaries or retirement rights.
