The special needs rights activist, Sarah Al-Marhoon, stated that organizing the special session held by the Municipal Council under the slogan “Built Environment to Empower the Integration of Special Needs into Society,” to discuss proposals and requirements related to this group, considering them as key stakeholders in all civil societies, confirms the belief in the importance of ensuring the right of special needs individuals to access all facilities and services.
Achieving true inclusivity requires the concerted efforts of various entities in the state, as ensuring easy access is not only a legal obligation but also a human duty that enhances the concept of justice and equality. She added that by removing obstacles and challenges that hinder special needs individuals from performing their daily tasks, we contribute to investing in creative human capital, which helps achieve Kuwait’s New Vision 2035 and the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
She continued, “Achieving inclusivity requires us to unite efforts to contribute to improving the lives of special needs individuals, their families, and friends in all aspects of daily life. They are an integral part of the fabric of society, and we must ensure a comprehensive environment that supports their rights and respects their diversity.”
She added, “Through designing a suitable urban environment, providing accessible public transportation, and developing public facilities and establishments that can be easily accessed, we achieve our vision of an integrated society that guarantees equal opportunities in education, employment, and entertainment for all. There will be no real progress in society if a part of its members are left in the shadows due to mobility or access challenges. Service facilities for every project, if prepared, help special needs individuals live independently.”
