Sana’a – Saba: Jasour – News Desk
A meeting in Sana’a, which included the Assistant Director General of Traffic Police, Brigadier General Ali Al-Washli, and the Deputy Executive Director of the Fund for the Care and Rehabilitation of the Disabled, Othman Al-Salwi, discussed the mechanism for implementing the national strategic matrix for people with disabilities in aspects related to traffic.
The meeting touched on a number of issues related to facilitating access to traffic documents for people with special needs. Children with disabilities are one of the most vulnerable and socially excluded groups in Yemen. Both mainstream and special needs education as well as therapy services for children with disabilities were scarcely available even before the civil war, and now they disabilities include destroyed service facilities, the absence of suitable services, remoteness, stigma, discrimination, and many other obstacles.
However, up to this day, the center is still not financially supported by the local government. The continuation of its services is therefore largely dependent on donations collected by our organization. However, the number of children with disabilities that require the support has more than doubled. We are therefore planning to expand support once funding is secured and the plans are clearly steady we will aim to improve accessibility and availability to introducing a special transportation service for the children, and expanding of the facilities.
